Chandrayaan-1 Enhanced Brand Image of ISRO
There was always a dearth of quality scientists, engineers etc joining organisations like DRDO, ISRO, BHEL etc. Yes there is always a demand for government jobs, but most of the professionals after education take up software engineering jobs or leave the country for better prospects. A lot of initiatives are taken up by government to promote research and development among students.
Chandrayaan-1 mission has definitely put India on world map on space mission. This mission improved the brand image of ISRO among budding engineers and other candidates who are interested in research. The most recent example is the entrance exam that was conducted (April 26) for openings in ISRO. There were merely 300 openings, but ISRO offices were flooded with over 1.35 lakh applications.
Economic slow down can also be attributed for the sudden increase of demand for government jobs. Many people who have left ISRO for IT organisations is also wishing to come back to ISRO.
