56% Voted for National Entrance Exam for Engg/Medical UG Courses
We all know that there are 100s if not 1000s of entrance exams in India conducted by colleges, universities etc to select candidates for the Engineering and Medical UG courses. Though there is a national entrance exam for engineering (AIEEE) and medical (AIPMT), students make sure that they attempt a couple of entrance exams to ensure seats in the favourite college. The practice of conducting parallel entrance exams causes wastage of resources, time and money.
Parinama conducted a poll on this subject. The question of the poll was “Should there be only 1 National Entrance Exam for admissions to all Engineering/Medical colleges in India ”. Around 56% of readers felt the need of a national entrance exam. There were 3181 voters for the poll.

25% of the respondents felt the need of separate entrance exam by states as we have today but not by individual colleges/universities. And a minority 19% voted for admissions based in Class 12 marks.
The results of this poll can be used as an indicator for other courses like Law, Commerce etc. There is a move by government to conduct a single entrance exam for courses in 15 new central universities. This is a welcome move. But this has to be adopted in all the universities in India as soon as possible.
