Number of IIM CAT 2009 Applicants Down
The economic slowdown and uncertainties in the job market could have slowed down the growth in the number of applicants for CAT 2009. On October 8, the number of applicants stood at 2.35 lakh. More applicants would have applied before the deadline expired on October 11.
The total number of candidates still may not be much higher than last year’s total of 2.76 lakh. In 2006, 1.8 lakh applicants wrote the examination. In 2007, the figure was about 2.3 lakh. CAT, used for entrance to the IIM and other institutes, has seen a solid growth of about 20 per cent every year for the last few years as quoted in The Hindu.
