Forget Books! 78% use Search Engines to Find New Info

Based on a poll conducted by Parinama, 78% of the voters use search engines to find new information. We conducted this poll, after a study in US stating that the search engines are becoming the new learning tool.

There were total of 1000 voters in the poll. 78% voted search engine as the number 1 source of new information. The other option got a total of 22%. Newspapers & TV got 10% votes, books got 8% votes and teachers for a meagre 4% votes.

This poll indicates the growing trend in India of using internet, especially search engines as a education tool. It is replacing the traditional tools of learning like books, teachers and newpapers. This poll also provides valuable hint to those who are in the business of career and education. Some of the take aways are-

Internet Advertisements can be more effective than traditional advertisements (news papers, magazines etc)
The educational contents should also be delivered via online/internet
Those are in the business of magazines should seriously think delivering the contents via websites
Tweak websites and make it more search engine friends as majority of the traffic will come from it

This poll was conducted between November 21, 2009 to January 2, 2010. The top 10 cities in which Parinama got traffic during this time frame are Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chandigarh, Pune, Jaipur and Indore. The visitors fall in the age range of 15 to 25 years.
